Telefunken M81 – Universal Dynamic Cardioid Mic The M81 is the latest in TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik’s line of dynamic microphones. The M81’s frequency response makes the microphone exceptional for vocals, electric guitars, percussion instruments, rack and floor toms, horns, and trumpets. Basically, it is designed to be used on… everything! It is a truly Universal Dynamic Microphone. The M80, TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik’s first dynamic mic, quickly became a favorite in both live and studio environments. It has a detailed top end, articulate mid-range, and minimal proximity effect making it a staple for vocal and snare drum applications. It’s won the hearts, and ears, of users and has become the most popular microphone in the TELEFUNKEN product line. The M81 compliments and builds off many of the strengths of the M80. It retains the same minimal proximity effect, superior feedback rejection, and articulate mid-range. However, the M81 yields a flatter overall frequency response. The top end is dialed back a bit which results in a microphone with body and clarity. The M81 was very much designed with the AR-51 in mind, and not only because they share the same finish and grill styling. Great care was taken to tune the M81’s overall response to be complimentary to the AR-51 when recording electric guitars.
